Architecting for planets other than earth...
Well, in the last post we talked about computing with space in mind.. in this blog I am going to cover another interesting topic.Thinking about the how to architect buildings for planets like moon & mars - Let's cover the moon first - for moon the essentials conditions are -
On thinking through the - we can see that usual architectures wouldn't work - if a building is constructed above the moon's surface - it will not withstand for long because of the temperatures and radiation and moreover any material used would be difficult and costly to deploy from earth to moon
The only advantage here is the short communication signal to direct any instrument to work on the surface of moon.
Well, then how to build - 3D printing comes to the rescue as we have now got small printers that can work on some AI logical decisioning and start building a structure.
But question is how does the structure look like - well, as moon dust is abundantly available - the best way would be to use it to - solve the problem of temperature variance construction block
Then what is the structure we can except - well one well defined model states that the structure best suited is an underground one which has a vacuum sealed oval architecture with top part completely laid with moon dust.
But still no atmosphere means that structure should be capable to within any objects or meteors coming in.
What best than to have the logical decisioning platforms try to build something here.
Now let's look at Mars - conditions prevalent on Mar's are -
With all this said - well one thing is for sure, we can't transport any material there but what we can do is build from the minerals present there in the martian dust and we can use 3d printing again but this time we can't rely on instructions from earth so how to go about it?
Use the builder robots to take decisions to make the structure and build the structures well underground - with the dusty environment - it doesn't harm to build more than one structure as these are not micro monitored from earth.
True AI would come in a lot handy at this point as all the architectures would heavily rely on decisioning based on their training both on earth and mars.
Other than this other option is a human + AI combination - which is more cool :).
Quite interesting - right!
- no atmosphere
- only moon dust availability
- temperatures withstanding -173 to 100 degree centigrade
- no magnetic field - so lots of radiation
- particles hitting the surface as there is no friction to stop any particle entering the moon.
- radio communication between earth to moon - 2.4 - 2.7 secs

Now let's look at Mars - conditions prevalent on Mar's are -
- some atmosphere - very thin - 0.21% of earth
- dusty environment
- lot of martian dust with sodium, potassium, magnesium and chlorine (good place for a salt plant ;)).
- radiation
- temperatures -153 to 20 degree centigrade
- radio communication time - min to max - 4 min to 20 mins
